Student Life
and Services
Although the intensive programs at BBSH require
diligence in work and study, the Resident Training sessions
also offer opportunities for students to get together socially.
Throughout the week, students gather to relax, stroll
around the area, make music, dance, and, in general, have
fun! And in addition to required coursework, many choose to
participate in optional elective courses or meetings, or to
become active in Student Council activities.
Student Councils
During the first Resident Training session of each year,
students elect a Student Council. Usually 3 to 5 representatives
are chosen, although as few as one representative from each
small class may be elected. The Student Council then elects
a President who communicates with the designated school
representative.
The Student Council usually meets at each Resident Training
session with the full class attendance to discuss important
topics, and students use these meetings to share their needs,
questions and concerns with fellow students.
Family Days
Each year during Class Week 4, BBSH invites families of our
students to visit us during Resident Training—and to learn
firsthand about BBSH programs. Scheduled activities are
available during these fun-filled days!
Professional/Academic Advising
Professional and academic advising is provided to the
student by the Small Class Teacher and Class Dean. Small
class size and low student-to-teacher ratio allow time for
personal attention and interaction. In addition, Teachers have
weekly office hours when they are available by telephone.
Professional and academic advising includes the following:
• Assisting students in clarifying, articulating and attaining
academic and life goals.
• Facilitating each student’s academic adjustment to
the School’s environment.
• Explaining and clarifying the School’s courses and
graduation requirements.
• Educating family members of students by providing
on-site family visitation during one class each year.
• Serving as advocates and mediators for students.
When a student’s academic progress is below established
standards, a team conference is held with the student to outline
a course of action that best supports the student’s success.
Team conferences are attended by faculty members who will
best support the student. In addition, each Year 4 student is
assigned a Case Leader and a Project Advisor who supports
