Seek God’s plan for living within a budget.
Many families in financial difficulty think that generating extra income, such as the
wife’s working will help. That is usually not the case. More income will sometimes
make the situation worse. If the total level of spending increases, credit will too.
Families should put God’s plan into action first.
a. Extra income: Consider the possibility of additional work only after correcting
buying habits. Working mothers sometimes contribute little income, but sacrifice
much in family guidance.
b. Before purchasing, give God an opportunity to provide the item. If our purchase
is in God’s will, He will sometimes manifest Himself in our finances by
providing it from a totally unexpected source. One of the greatest joys in a
Christian’s life is to experience God’s love through His miraculous provision.

c. Pray about every expenditure. That experience brings God directly into our
lives and strengthens our faith so that we can trust Him in greater things.
_____ No purchase is too large or too small to pray about.
_____ Bring your family in on the petition before God and allow them to share in
the spiritual blessing.
_____ Learn to discern God’s will in the area of new purchases. God may not
grant you every wish, because often we ask for things that will ultimately
hurt us.
