SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT
Looking forward with excellence
Salisbury University’s 10th president charts future course
F
or nearly 100 years, Salisbury
University has represented what higher education is all about: Opportunity.
Challenge. Progress. Life-changing
outcomes.
As Dr. Carolyn Ringer Lepre celebrates the
conclusion of her first year as SU’s 10th President,
she and the University are looking forward with
excitement to what the future holds.
During a spring State of the University
address, Lepre shared her Salisbury Seven priorities, developed after listening to students, employees, alumni and the community. During her
Inaugural address, Lepre spoke about SU’s past,
its present and a future that is just beginning.
“Higher education has never been more
important than it is right now,” she said. “I believe,
deep down in my soul, that higher education is
the path to helping solve the world’s biggest problems, and that each of us is called on to do what
we can to pave the way for the next generation of
learners.”
With Lepre’s leadership, SU will continue
doing just that.
This fall, the University welcomes a new
group of incoming students, which will be the
most diverse in campus history, with 32% coming
from underrepresented backgrounds. With students from across the U.S. and around the world,
SU offers a place to learn while being seen, heard,
supported, celebrated and challenged.
At SU, students choose from over 60 graduate and undergraduate academic programs. With
a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students get to
know their professors, who connect ideas from
the classroom to real-world, hands-on experiences. The result is Salisbury graduates who are
prepared to thrive in graduate school and their
careers, serving communities across Maryland
and beyond.
SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business
awards some $350,000 annually to student
and mid-Atlantic entrepreneurs through its
Entrepreneurship Competitions and Ratcliffe
Shore Hatchery Program. The Perdue School’s
online Master of Business Administration program has been ranked for six years as one of the
top in the nation by U.S. News & World Report
and offers professionals opportunities to advance
their careers.
With roots as a normal school known for educating teachers, SU’s Seidel School of Education
has nationally recognized professional development school partnerships with 44 schools in seven
counties across Maryland, providing early childhood, elementary, secondary and P-12 teacher
preparation. Encompassing numerous Maryland
Teachers of the Year and finalists, graduates of the
Seidel School are prepared to educate the students
of tomorrow.
The College of Health and Human Services
is home to SU’s well-known schools of Nursing,
Social Work and Health Sciences, which prepare students with interprofessional and technical skills to care for patients, clients, families and
communities at large. Students engage in clinicals,
field placements, internships and other handson learning experiences, including those at the
University’s Henson Medical Simulation Center.
The Richard A. Henson School of Science and
Technology provides a student-centered environment for exploring science, technology, mathematics and related disciplines. Henson continues
to innovate its curriculum, with new programs in
data science and integrated science, and plentiful
opportunities for conducting research alongside
faculty.
The Fulton School of Liberal Arts plays a vital
role in the academic experience of nearly every
SU student as home to the visual and performing
arts, humanities and social sciences programs.
Fulton students have the opportunity to expand
their knowledge of the world, while developing
essential skills and exploring enriching experiences.
As President Lepre often articulates, her primary goals for SU are to “achieve excellence
by investing in our people; strengthening our
commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and
belonging; and delivering a rigorous, studentfocused academic program taught by world-class
educators.”
“We are defining what distinction means
for a regional comprehensive institution,” she
said. “We will continue to serve the needs of the
Eastern Shore, Maryland, and the nation, and
most importantly, do so by remaining firmly
committed to placing our students at the heart of
everything we do.”
