Early bird

Several years ago, a colleague introduced
me to the world of online bird cams. It quickly
became part of my morning routine.
Me, my cat, and a cup of coffee at the kitchen table, watching various bird species across
the country start their own days. The one I was
most drawn to was a picturesque nest of osprey
in Montana. Every morning in the spring, I’d
watch their bird family grow. From the eggs

hatching to daily feeding and eventually the
fledging of the young osprey.
Since then I’ve had increased interest in wild
birds. When the pandemic began, there wasn’t
much to photograph beside nature, along with
nose swabs and face masks. Everywhere you go
there are birds, and seeing them thrive among
us is usually a good sign that their habitat is
still in good shape.
