BabyCues methods stem a separation that seems to be developing in Western society; a
separation that has us believing a newborn’s body works very differently to an adult’s and
that each baby is different. The latter is of course partly true. We all have our own DNA,
which can form unique behaviours or digestive sensitivities, and this remains an aspect to
consider for your newborn. However, if we start with the basics of digestive biology, in the
majority of cases each newborn is the same. Our fundamental make-up dictates this to be
so. This is the solid platform on which BabyCues philosophy and care is based. With this in
mind, please take a moment to ask yourself the following questions.
As an adult what gives you wind?
• Eating too much
• Gulping in air as you drink or eat
• Certain foods
• Gasping for air for whatever reason
• Drinking to quickly.
How do you release this normal function called wind?
• Passing wind — by burping (sometimes with acid regurgitation) or blowing off
• Releasing your bowels
• Hiccups — even as an adult, generally the first hiccup we experience expels air
• By expelling air when we lie down for a while and then sit or stand up.
How does your body break down food?
• Via a balanced secretion of enzymes and digestive juices.
