Dominique — one of the most wonderful and courageous mothers I have met. Thank you for
planting the seed to write this book.
Dominique was expecting twins. I was very lucky to meet her, her husband Uean and their other
two boys in London, to talk about living with them when their twins were born. The couple had
experienced a lot of inconsolable crying from their two older sons in their early months because
Dominique had unknowingly read their cues incorrectly while demand feeding. After I had
explained my approach and methods to them, they engaged my services in the hope of avoiding the
same awful start for their twins.
From very early on though, Dominique chose to care for her twins in the same way she had
previously been taught. By two weeks of age, they were highly unsettled. One afternoon she looked
at me with tears in her eyes and said, “This is not working. Okay, let’s try it your way.”
I explained that the first three to four days might prove to be very hard as the boys became
digestively balanced and her milk supply adjusted. It was likely they would cry more at first and
their sleep could become more erratic but on the fifth to sixth day they would be significantly more
relaxed. Dominique and Uean bravely chose the path of the unknown.
In the evening on Day Five, a tired but contented Dominique with her two relaxed boys turned to
me and fervently said, “You need to write a book about this. I am not kidding. People need to know
this.” Her words were the catalyst to the creation of BabyCues.
