B.F. Plastics, Inc. – A 70-year partnership
with engravers and sign makers.
2023 marks the 70th anniversary of an industry pioneer.
The signage, identification and recognition industries are a unique tapestry of
numerous, often smaller and family-owned operators, located all across the
country. From single shops in many small towns, to cities with multiple shops that
compete against larger signage and recognition companies, opportunities in these
industries are built upon reputation, loyalty and most of all, customer service.
70 years of dedication.
These qualities are shared by one of the pioneering providers that serve sign
makers and engravers across the country. Proudly celebrating their 70th anniversary,
B.F. Plastics, Inc. is an independent wholesale distributor of engraving materials
and supplies that has built a legacy of trust and loyalty among its customers. A
family-owned business, based in rural North Lawrence, Ohio, B.F. Plastics has had
three generations of the Fichter family in its management since the company was
founded in 1953.
What began as a solo, home-based shop, today B.F. Plastics is run by a core of
nine highly-experienced employees, all key players in supporting customers while
processing hundreds of orders daily from among thousands of customers located
across the US and Canada. Known for stocking a large inventory of materials and
fast shipping, the company has long been a mainstay as a provider, because of its
service model and personalized attention.
Robert (Bob) Fichter started B.F. Plastics
as an engraving company – it eventually
became one of the sign industry’s most
successful wholesale providers.
“Many sign makers and engravers we do business with have made us their
advantage,” says B.F. Plastics CEO, Jim Fichter. By offering a larger inventory, fair
pricing and terms, and rapid shipping with predictable flat rates, they can carry
smaller material and supply inventories, while remaining fully competitive on their
offering and delivery to their customers. We’ve built our company based on the
highest level of personalized customer service, and by going the extra mile to be a
reliable extension of our customers’ business that they can count on.”
This dedicated business and service philosophy is nothing new at B.F. Plastics.
Decades before the digital world we know today, a business could only grow a
national following by its reputation and word-of-mouth in its industry. Jim credits
his father and company founder, Bob Fichter, for looking at the fledgling signage
and engraving industry as a partnership, and always putting the customer first,
