Joseph A. Hernandez
Rehearsal Director
Joseph A. Hernandez (he/him),
from Chicago, Illinois, began his
movement training with Shotokan
Karate. He received his formal
dance training from Western
Michigan University, where he
graduated magna cum laude
with a BFA in Dance. Joseph’s
professional
credits
include
Broadway’s West Side Story, ODC/
Dance, The Metropolitan Opera
Ballet, LED Boise, Lyric Opera of
Chicago, Amy Seiwert’s Imagery,
LA Opera, Ballare Carmel, Kate
Weare Company, Wellspring/Cori
Terry & Dancers, and River North
Dance Chicago. Most recently, he
was awarded an Isadora Duncan
Dance Award for outstanding
performance in choreography
by Natasha Adorlee. In addition
to dance, Joseph enjoys cat
snuggles, camping, climbing, and
spending time at the racetrack.
Zara Anwar
Company Dancer
Zara Anwar (dancer, teacher) is
from Columbia, MD. With AXIS she
has performed works by Marc Brew,
Sonsheree Giles, Nadia Adame,
Ben Levine, Asun Noales, Robin
Dekkers, and Dazaun Soleyn.
She has performed in venues and
festivals such as Rowan University,
Bold Moves Festival, ODC Theater,
Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival,
Invictus Games in Dusseldorf,
Germany, Festival Internacional
Cervantino
in
Mexico,
ASU
Gammage, and Unique Source
Awards Ceremony. She has taught
for the company’s dance workshops
and summer intensives and teaches
ballet at select studios in the East
Bay. She received her professional
training as a merit-scholar at the
Baltimore School for the Arts, Alvin
Ailey American Dance Theater,
and Alonzo King LINES Ballet BFA
Program at Dominican University
of California.
