We have just had our coldest and
wettest May in many years with
reports of frost and snow in some
parts of the United Kingdom.
Generally speaking, May tends to
be a busy month for you VRO’s,
especially now that lockdowns
are easing, people are desperate
to get out and about and back to
some kind of normality.
The latest Apex figures saw higher
volumes than the same week in
2019!
Total volumes were at 73k jobs, up
11% versus the week before and
11% higher than the same week
in 2019. The weather, no doubt
will have had something to do with
this increase but it’s great to see.
Hopefully this is a sign of the
industry starting to get back on
its feet and back to a reasonable
turnover going forward.

CONSULTATION - REMOVAL,
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL
VEHICLE CHARGES
we obtain the same success in
England and Wales.
I am pleased to report that following
AVRO’s intensive campaign to
the Home Office, a consultation
process has now begun on the
much overdue review of the 2008
Statutory Fees for the removal,
storage and disposal of vehicles
in England and Wales.
The member benefits keep on
coming and we are delighted to
announce another opportunity
for our members to save money.
In conjunction with Maxwell
Grant Consultancy we can now
offer potential savings on the
following ‘’Magnificent Seven‘’
opportunities:
I appreciate it will not affect all of
you, however, it gives you a flavour
of the hard work my colleagues
provide to improve the status of
our industry.
The consultation closes in August
this year and is conducted by the
Home Office. AVRO is forming
its response at present which we
will share with members in the
coming weeks. It is extremely
important that we ensure that for
such an important industry matter
that there is a clear and concise
message from the industry.
For example, in terms of
transparency, I have had Members
from Northern Ireland contact me,
most upset regarding an ‘’owners
request’’ which simply is being
abused over there.
There is also the question of
‘’substantially damaged‘’ - Is a
front-end prang treated the same
way as a modern vehicle with
electronic hand breaking ceased?
As many of you will know AVRO
was very successful in gaining
an increase in Statutory Fees in
Scotland from £150 to £190 and
it is now down to us to ensure that
