NTP NEWS! THE ALTERNATIVE TRAIN
With in-person DCPC modules
and the roadmap to opening
now in full swing the team at
NTP have been busy delivering
practical roadside and recovery
courses all across the UK from
Scotland to Devon, and with
our online courses going from
strength to strength too there
is no better time to look for
an alternative to your current
industry training provider and
industry equivalent courses!
We offer vocational training,
practical instructional courses
and e-learning modules for the
roadside & recovery, automotive,
logistics, transport and emergency
services
sectors
including
specialist courses, accreditations
and qualifications in Levels 1, 2
& 3 Electric & Hybrid Vehicles,
Forensics, the Roadside &
Recovery Technicians Course,
Mini-Bus Awareness, Carriageway
Clearance and much more.
Innovations in technology have
ensured that we have been able
to deliver essential instructional
and vocational training throughout
the pandemic and have proven
that the Blended Learning module
is the future of training for the
industry.
All training meets National
Occupational Standards and has
been externally accredited by
awarding bodies and professional
organisations such as those listed
above and our trainers and those
of our Consortium members are
qualified teachers to minimum
Level 3 in Education & Training
with vocational training and
experience in the subjects that
they teach. Our courses meet the
various contractual obligations
and H&S compliance required
for industry documentation and
contracts including: PAS43 and
SURVIVE, the Police Schemes,
FMG Ltd for Scotland & Wales,
the HASAWA 1974, HSE and
Electricity at Work Act.
With delegates attending online
sessions from Shetland to
Australia and in-person practical
sessions in their own depots or
regions, companies were able to
save time and money as well as
maintain their duty of care to their
employees and fulfil contractual
obligations during the lockdowns.
A huge thanks goes to the
companies and delegates who
have joined us from around the
world or who have hosted us
across the UK, we will continue
to provide adaptable, approved
and accredited training that takes
everyone out of their comfort
zones no matter how experienced
or knowledgeable they are.

TRAINING AND COMPETENCY
OBLIGATIONS?
There are a few misconceptions
about training within the industry
and what requirements are
specified for competency in the
industry contracts and document,
for example:
NHSS17 / 17B: the ONLY courses
that are mandatory in the Sector
Scheme document are the IVR
(UK) Ltd approved VR01, VR02
and VR03 core modules. It states
on page 42 Appendix C1 “it is
not implied that an accredited
technician must have successfully
undertaken all the courses other
than VR 01, VR02, VR03 and
the minimum necessary to obtain
accreditation”.
Further
clarity
on
whose
responsibility it is to decide which
courses should be delivered and
by whom is referenced on page
23, 7.2 Competence.
General: “The training and
assessment
of
technicians
required by this Scheme is aimed
primarily at technical competence
for vehicle removal and recovery.
It is intended to provide awareness
to carry out work in a safe and
appropriate manner. However, it
remains the responsibility of the
organization to determine and
implement safe systems of work”
PAS43:2018: uses the National
Occupational Standards as the
guiding principal for the training
of technicians, stating on pages
14-18, 11 Training competence
and behaviour of road recovery
technicians:
General: “Management shall
ensure
that
training
and
competency skills for technicians
working at the roadside shall be
provided by a scheme traceable
to the National Occupational
Standards [3] (see Annex C and
SURVIVE website 5) for example
of suitable training)”.
Induction training: “Management
shall ensure that their vehicle
technicians
have
undergone
induction training that covers
all aspects of the work to be
undertaken, and with the following
requirements for a vehicle
technician set out in Table 1 as a
minimum”.
