In December 1993, Imanaged to acquire the companyand set about a process ofimproving and expanding.We have since expanded intolarger premises twice, winningclub contracts and acquiring along line of regular customers.We now operate from a 1 acre site,central to Bournemouth town, withover 25 vehicles and 35 membersof staff. The dedication of recoverycompanies, their staff and familiesnever ceases to amaze me.WHAT DO YOU FIND MOSTCHALLENGING ABOUTRECOVERY WORK?Dealing with the changingworkloads! Being a holiday townour work can quadruple duringthe summer months and bankholidays. Bournemouth oftenreceives upward of a million visitorsover a hot, sunny weekend.RECOVERYWHAT’S THE BEST/WORSTTHING TO HAPPEN SINCE YOUSTARTED IN THE INDUSTRY?The best thing was when my sondecided to join the company andtake it forward.Worst – a phone call from afellow operator to tell me one ofmy trucks was upside down in aditch at the side of the motorway.Luckily, all involved were releasedfrom hospital with minor injuries.WHAT’S SURPRISING TOKNOW ABOUT YOU?In my younger days I playedkeyboard in a group. I also hada head of thick, black hair when Istarted in recovery – now the littleI have left is grey!IF YOU WEREN’T DOINGRECOVERY, WHAT WOULDYOU BE DOING INSTEAD?I’d be a full-time landlord/propertydeveloper.WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DOOUTSIDE OF WORK?I love to travel overseas, and Ienjoy the local beaches.
