HGV Testing review imminent Dear ATFOA Member,
Following the announcement in
August by Baroness Vere, the
Parliamentary Under Secretary of
State for Transport, that there would
be a review in to HGV testing, the
government have gone quiet.
Our e-mails had fallen on deaf ears.
However, late last week ATFOA
received a letter from Baroness Vere
stating:

reference for the review with Ministers
and should be in touch within the next
few days to confirm your involvement
and propose a time for the first
meeting”
Next steps
As a primary stakeholder within the
review process, ATFOA hope to be
heavily involved. To carry out this task
we intend to crate our own Think Tank
from active ATFOA members to form
our policy.
In order to start a selection process
from our members, ATFOA board
will be inviting fully paid up members
who show an interest, to a preliminary
zoom meeting.
It is the boards view that the ATFOA
Think Tank should consist of at least
one of the following member types.
- Passenger carriers
- Independents
- Main dealers
- Hauliers
- Rental/ hire
The ATFOA Think Tank should also
have representation from different
regions to ensure regional quirks are
taken into account.
It is likely that we may have more than
one representative from each member
type, we may need the resource.

The ATFOA Think Tank?
ATFOA Think Tank members will
probably be involved with various
activities, such as; researching, brain
storming, building scenario based
arguments, forming ATFOA HGV
testing review policy and possibly
even meeting with DVSA, ministers or
government representatives.
This is still early days, we do not even
know the structure and process of the
review, however our thoughts are that
we should start preparing to ensure
we are ready so our agreed policy is
fairly, intelligently and transparently
presented.
