Exploring Our Five Senses at KidsSTOP
Our term 3 theme, “Five Senses”, brought us to Science Centre
Singapore’s KidsSTOP, where the children enjoyed hands-on
experiences exploring scientific concepts and engaging their senses
at various stations.
Upon entering KidsSTOP, the children were greeted by a lively
construction site setup with kid-sized diggers and construction
worker gear. The highlight of this space was a mechanised crane
that picked up and dropped plastic balls at the push of a button,
engaging the children’s sense of sight and hearing.
At the Dino Pit Station, the children used brushes and excavation
tools to uncover replica dinosaur fossils, experiencing the fine, dry
texture of the sand and engaging their sense of touch.
In the Smaller World area, they identified different creatures by
listening to the sounds they made, while the Music Room offered
instruments for the children to play, enhancing their sense of
hearing as they created their own music.
We wrapped up the outing with a snack activity, where the children
and families explored taste and smell. Teachers provided a variety
of foods for tasting, with visual supports to help the children
identify different flavours and aromas. It was a wonderful, sensoryrich experience for everyone!
