SUSS and Eden Centre for Adults Collaborate on Vocational Pilot Project
In a pilot project to promote inclusive hiring, the Singapore
University of Social Sciences (SUSS) – SR Nathan School of Human
Development (NSHD) partnered with the Eden Centre for Adults
(ECFA) on vocational projects from July to November 2024.
ECFA’s Hougang centre managed most of the project tasks, while
the Clementi centre focused on organising SUSS’s Early Childhood
room, preparing it for student learning.
using Hama beads for an SUSS conference, where they persevered
in sorting, designing, and packing the items. In total, 25 clients
participated in the project.
Meanwhile, 8 ECFA Clementi clients traveled twice weekly to SUSS
to organise and catalogue books in the Early Childhood room, with
SUSS warmly welcoming them and providing afternoon tea breaks
at their canteen.
The first assignment saw clients labeling and boxing 464 umbrellas
for the NSHD Open House. This was followed by the creative
project of designing 509 ‘Thank You’ cards for an Associate’s lunch
event. Clients used stickers, markers, and their unique creativity to
personalise each card, showcasing their attention to detail. Another
project involved packing goodie bags for SUSS’s Counselling
department.
Special thanks to Dr Eunice Tan, Head of Special Education
Programmes, Senior Lecturer and parent of our ECFA client,
whose vision made this initiative possible, along with the dedicated
Eden coaches.
We are deeply appreciative to SUSS for their commitment to
empowering individuals with special abilities—thank you, SUSS!
Over just 15 days, ECFA clients completed three projects with the
school. A fourth project required clients to create 150 coasters
