GETTING TO KNOW OUR STAFF
JASERINA LEONG
INTERVIEW
The experience has also cultivated adaptability and patience,
which are valuable traits in creating an inclusive and supportive
environment.
Tell us more about yourself and your role in Eden
After graduating from Singapore Institution of Technology (SIT)
with a degree in Early Childhood Education, I took a leap of faith
and decided to serve the special needs community as my first full
time job. The challenges I’ve faced shaped me to be the EIPIC
teacher I am today and fast forward 7 years later, I still find purpose
in what I do.
What is an ability you wish you had?
I would choose to have the ability to learn and absorb information
quickly. For someone who needs multiple practices to get the hang
of things, just how efficient and advantageous would it be to be
able to pick up a new skill or language immediately?
As a special needs teacher in Eden, my role involves providing
tailored activities and support to students with diverse learning
needs. This includes creating individualised lesson plans,
collaborating with other educators and professionals, and fostering
an inclusive learning environment to ensure the academic and
personal development of each student.
What TV show/movie are you ashamed to admit you love?
I’m more ashamed to admit that I just found out about the show
‘Suits’ and it’s so addictive!
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Building genuine connections with my students and helping them
overcome challenges fosters a unique and gratifying sense of
accomplishment in my role as a special needs teacher. It is truly
rewarding to see the impacts that we have on our clients as we
witness their growth and achievements.
Also, guiding my fellow colleagues brings me joy as it allows me
to share my experience, knowledge, and insights with others.
Witnessing their professional development and seeing them
thrive in their teaching journey is incredibly fulfilling. Contributing
to a supportive and collaborative learning environment not only
benefits the new teachers but also enhances the overall success of
the centre.
How much has your previous experience helped you in
your current role?
Working with neurotypical children prior Eden has provided a
foundation for understanding diverse learning styles, effective
communication, and classroom management. These skills
are transferable and crucial when working with our students.
A joy to teach, a job that fulfils, a moment we cherish.
