Dedicated to growing Indiana’s local and statewide economy, the Ports of Indiana is a self-funded
enterprise that conducts business to generate economic growth, employment, and tax dollars for
state and local governments. Indiana has three major shipping ports in Burns Harbor, a major hub
of international trade located in the Steel Capital of North America, Jeffersonville which is located
in a top logistics market, and Mount Vernon, one of the largest inland ports in the U.S. Learn more at

A THREE PORT NETWORK
Burns Harbor
Indiana has three public ports:
• Burns Harbor-On Lake Michigan in
Portage Indiana
• Jeffersonville-On the Ohio River in
Jeffersonville (across from Louisville, KY)
• Mount Vernon-On the Ohio River in Mount
Vernon (just 15 miles west of Evansville, IN)
Ports of Indiana handles approximately 12
million tons of maritime shipments at its three
ports. Primary cargoes include steel, grain,
coal, fertilizer, limestone, ethanol, salt, cement,
and heavy-lift equipment. Unique shipments
have included Indiana National Guard troops,
the world’s largest crawler crane and largest
wind turbines in North America, and an entire
Boeing 727 airplane.
