NEW PRIZE
AMPLIFIES
FEMINIST
VOICES
Our new Feminist Creator Prize encourages,
acknowledges, and supports diverse feminists
who are creating content to promote critical
conversations about gender justice, safety,
and freedom from harm.
It will recognize individuals or groups who
excel in using highly accessible digital media
content such as podcasts, social media,
mobile games, apps, videos, and educational
tools.
Three recipients will be selected by a diverse
judge panel of digital media creators.
The winners will be announced on
International Women’s Day 2024 and will
each receive $5,000.
The Feminist Creator Prize is presented in
honour of Michele Landsberg, award-winning
journalist, author, social activist, and feminist,
acknowledging her tremendous impact in
Canadian media.
Why do we need a Feminist
Creator Prize?
• Cybercrimes in Canada have been rising
since 2018 – the Internet is facilitating hate
crimes in increasing proportions.
• 90% of women respondents to the 2020
Toxic Hush survey said they’ve experienced
or witnessed increased online abuse since
the pandemic began.
• The Coalition for Women in Journalism
reports that Canada is the country where the
greatest number of women journalists were
exposed to organized troll campaigns in 2022.
• When women report tech-facilitated
violence, they’re often told to stop posting.
This effectively silences them and enables
the problem to persist.
We need to counter growing hate and
harassment and take action to bolster
diverse feminist voices before they’re
silenced forever. In this time of uncertainty
and polarization, we’re moved by renewed
calls for justice, equity, and a better future,
powerfully led by underheard communities
and the next generation.
