AM You initially trained for, and started, a career in medicine. Why did you decide to leave?
AM I have always loved interacting with people in a really
meaningful way, and combined with a passion for science, this
originally drew me towards a career in medicine. I was honoured to attend Medical School at The University of Newcastle
Upon Tyne, but I struggled with the non-holistic approach often adopted by western medicine. I graduated in 2005 at the
young age of 23 and worked for a brief period as a junior doctor in Sunderland Royal Infirmary. However, I knew in my heart
that this career was not right for me and I finally made the decision to leave the medical world. I focused on all of the transferable skills that I had gained and made the unusual choice to
work in fashion. After a few years I then made a more permanent move to become a yoga teacher. It feels really wonderful
to have, over fifteen years later, come full circle and use all of
the knowledge and experience that I gained in those years to
now teach anatomy and physiology to yoga teachers.
