Plastic Packaging Tax
Explained
The UK has taken a notable step towards a more sustainable future with the enforcement
of the Single-Use Plastic Ban, which came into effect in 2022. The Single-Use Plastic
Ban prohibits the sale and distribution of certain single-use plastic items in the UK. This
includes plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds, which help create a detrimental impact
on marine life and ecosystems.

be reused in production of new plastic products. There is a threshold of 30% recycled

pay the Plastic Packaging Tax that is currently set at £223.69/tonne from April 2025.
