Understanding the
Worship Experience at
Alfred Street Baptist Church
Introduction
We enter the Lord’s House with reverence, humility and awe for who God
is. We enter with an attitude for worship. We should enter quietly being
mindful that “worship” signifies attributing worth or respect to someone
and that someone is God.
There are many components of worship but in its broadest sense “worship
is the meeting between God and God’s people. It is the meeting of the
One who gives meaning and purpose to life.” The heart of worship evolves
from the power of the Holy Spirit who enables the congregation to offer
self to God; and self through praise and thanksgiving for who God is.
Worship requires a commitment to a life lived according to the content
of the worship experience. We act out our worship according to a certain
order of service and/or tradition. Our senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste
and smell are engaged in what we do. Worship can be either private or
public. (You can worship God alone or with others).
The central focus of Christian worship is the work of Jesus Christ. The
event that informs and gives shape to the content and form of Christian
worship is the birth, death, resurrection and consummation of Jesus Christ.
