as to present an opportunity for the power of God to effect a change in their lives.
John O. Peterson Library
Dedicated in September 2001, the John O. Peterson Library is named for Alfred Street
Baptist Church’s 7th pastor, John Otis Peterson. The mission of the Library is to provide
resources that enhance ministries, discipleship, fellowship and worship for church
members. The collection includes commentaries, books on prayer and daily devotions,
biblical reference sources, children’s books, and religious history. Materials on African
American history and culture as well as resources about grief, marriage, divorce, parenting,
and money management are just some of the subjects covered in the Library.
Junior Youth
The purpose of the Junior Youth Ministry is to provide an age appropriate spiritual and
recreational program that meets the needs of children ages 8–12. This ministry is actively
involved in encouraging youth to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. JYM
also offers discipleship training and promotes spiritual and personal growth. It offers children
in the upper elementary and early middle school age groups the opportunity to fellowship
and build Christian character. Our theme is “We are building FAITH in Christ through FUN
while enjoying FELLOWSHIP with one another.”
Kids’ Street (Children’s Church)

make available opportunities for children to praise and worship God as well as learn about God
and come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. In addition, fellowship opportunities
are provided along with follow-up sermon and mission outreach activities, that are designed to
promote spiritual growth of children. Children are encouraged to participate in all worship service
components, including, but not limited to: music, dance, scripture reading, prayers, and ushering.
Services are held the first, third, fourth, and fifth Sundays (September–June).
