Dust Assessments
Dust impact assessments provide
an independent and standardised
approach to assessing the potential
dust impacts from a new or
existing site.
A variety of assessment tools can be utilised
to support new facilities through the planning
application process and help existing sites
conduct air quality monitoring to demonstrate
compliance with section 106 agreements or air
quality objectives for PM10.
Assessments are generally designed on
a site-speci昀椀c basis and can provide bene昀椀ts
to organisations in the following sectors:

∙ Air quality dust risk assessments demonstrate
how the impacts associated with demolition
or construction projects will meet regulatory
guidance (such as the greater London authority
on the control of dust & emissions from
construction and demolition SPG.)
∙ Dust management plans assess the likely
dust impacts at the design and planning
stage of a new development and address
the key mitigation measures that will enable
sites to meet conditions stipulated in the
national planning policy framework and
section 106 agreements.
∙ Site boundary dust monitoring solutions
assess both the potential health impact of
elevated concentrations of PM10 and also the
nuisance dust e昀昀ect of dust deposition and
昀氀ux beyond a site perimeter.
∙ Dust speciation and characterisation analysis
help organisations verify the source of
potential nuisance dust and also identify if
there are any hazardous constituents that may
poses a public health risk.
∙ Baseline dust monitoring studies measure
the levels of key air pollutants (PM10 & PM2.5)
prior to the start of infrastructure projects
and enable an accurate assessment of
the impact of the development during its
operational phase.
