STRENGTH I N LEGACY
In 2023, Steve Luurrow announced his retirement aer
43 years at Goodwill Houston. We sat down with Steve to
briefly reflect on his career of service.

The financial stability of Goodwill Houston. Our current financial
health will carry Goodwill forward for the next generation and beyond.
Financial strength is very important for any organization, but it’s critical
at Goodwill as our Team Members and people we serve depend on us
to offer opportunities to change lives through the power of work.

Taking over an organization that did great things and had a strong
reputation but was burdened with debt and under-producing
operations, was a huge challenge. I was able to work with my team
to stabilize and grow. In addition, the support of our board and the
philanthropic community has been amazing. Their support has enabled
Goodwill Houston to expand so we could provide jobs, careers, benefits,
certifications, and so much more to the people who need Goodwill in
our community. The incredible team that I have been blessed to work
with over the years were partners as we became one of the greatest
Goodwill organizations in the country.

SELFWHATWOULDITBE?
I’ve always been an optimist, but I have learned that sleepless nights
and worry aren’t good for your health. Prayer, communication, and
the good we were able to do in the community are what has given
me the energy to tackle the issues involved with leading this amazing
organization. My wife Joan, my sons Steve and Will, daughter-in-laws
Sara and Terrell, and our six grandchildren — along with my friends
and my faith — have always supported me through the tough days and
helped me celebrate the days of success.
