PLANTS OF THE FOREST GARDEN & UNDER the oak
On a farm property of about three hectares just outside Höör, the companies Skogsträdgårdens växter
(“Plants of the Forest garden”), run by Hanna Jönsson
and My Kjellberg, and Under eken (“Under the Oak”),
run by Hanna Jönsson, are located. Skogsträdgårdens
växter is a nursery for perennial vegetables, berries
and trees. The company was one of the first to raise
seedlings as a way to drive the development of forest
gardening in Sweden. Under Eken is a young forest
garden, run on a separate area, with over 150 species
in the herb layer. Production consists mainly of perennial vegetables, and they have trials with their own
varieties and berries. Sales are made to restaurants,
Reko-ring and their own farm shop.

Irrigation

In parallel with the commercial activities, the site is
home to a permaculture collective under development, which in the long term is intended to form the
backbone of the farm. The property has 15 young
chestnut trees and 15 young walnut trees that will be
grown and harvested by the collective, as well as a
small production of annual crops. In time, the trees
are expected to yield enough to become part of the
commercial operation. Hanna and My also welcome
groups for guided tours, study visits and lectures.

trees, shrubs and perennial vegetables were competing for water. Therefore, a 150,000-litre water dam
was built at the highest point of the farm. With a water
use of about 5,000 litres per week, the dam now
supplies the farm’s needs through gravity-fed system
and drip irrigation, and has not yet run dry. Should
that happen, there is a dug well to supplement it. In
total, the irrigation system cost around SEK 60,000.
