2023 Donor Impact Report - Flipbook - Page 5
Vice Chancellor’s Welcome
Over the past few years, the world has
changed in so many ways. Maybe a
pandemic precipitated that change, but
it was people who navigated it. UniSA
is immensely proud of our response to
those challenges, and I would like to
acknowledge the huge role that you, our
donors, have played in that.
In a year where we finally put the worst disruption of
the pandemic behind us, with your support, UniSA has
grown as an institution.
In 2022, we launched our Enterprise Hub – a profound
reimagining of how we engage with industry, conceived
to ensure the very best impact for the research and
teaching that your generosity supports.
We also kicked off our Visiting Research Fellowship
scheme, which, again with your support, will see many of
the brightest people on the planet collaborate with UniSA
on world-leading research over the next five years.
2022 also saw the launch of new scholarships to
support students from a refugee background, and to
increase the number of Aboriginal Peoples in research
degrees and academia.
These are major initiatives. They are proud statements
about where UniSA wants to go – and where we can
go because of your generosity. It’s a direction we are
dedicated to.
I am delighted to tell you that in 2022, that direction
was supported by over $6,919,000 in philanthropic
funding pledged to UniSA. We are incredibly grateful for
that generosity.
2022 was also a year that saw UniSA enter an
agreement with the State and Federal Governments
and the University of Adelaide to explore the feasibility
of creating a new university in South Australia. That’s
a big conversation. It’s one we’re engaging in because
we’re committed to attracting the best and brightest
researchers and students from around the world to
South Australia, helping this state grow financially,
socially, and culturally.
Wherever that conversation leads, our goals won’t
change. They remain the same goals you have so
generously supported in the past year – providing
opportunities for students who might otherwise be
denied them; supporting vital research; finding smarter,
better ways to do everything that can be done.
That’s what the staff and students of UniSA have always
done. That’s what we will continue to do.
Over the past nine years, we have been fortunate to
have Deborah Heithersay guide our donor activities.
Deborah has now moved onto other things, and we
thank her for the wonderful work she has done for
UniSA. In farewelling Deborah, I also extend a warm
welcome to UniSA’s new Chief Advancement Officer, Dr
Colin Taylor.
I am sure, as he takes up his new role, Colin will join
me in warmly thanking you all once again for your
generosity.
Thank you.
