Homes not hospitals
Active Prospects fully support the Homes not Hospitals
campaign launched in 2015 by National Health Service,
Association of Directors of Adult Social Care and Local
Government Association which recognised that people
with complex care needs were getting stuck in hospital
as there were not enough support providers or capable
environments to meet their needs.
Since then, Active Prospects have created 40 homes in
South East England specially to address this need. We
have been successful in applying for and delivering £12
million of NHS Capital Grants, using social investment
of £4 million from Social and Sustainable Capital,
mainstream mortgages through Barclays, and some of
our own investment.
We always aim to provide homes that are well designed
and robust, utilise assistive technology to provide privacy
and independence, are appropriately spacious but also
are homely. We believe that your home is your sanctuary,
a safe place to rest and rejuvenate, and to be inspired to
go out into the world.
In the last year Active Prospects delivered 2 new homes
in Ashstead, Surrey by repurposing an existing property,
built 6 new homes in Redhill known as Great Meadows, 4
new homes in West Sussex and 4 in Brighton and Hove all
with investment from NHS England.
Great Meadows is comprised of 1 bed ground floor
flats each have a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, lounge
and their own gardens. All 6 flats use Just Roaming
assistive technology which enables maximum privacy
and independence whilst ensuring that people are safe
and support is available immediately when needed. This
technology also provides personalised data which allows
us to monitor people’s skills and activity, evidencing
true needs and strengths, and outcomes to behavioural
interventions. The service is designed and commissioned
to meet the needs of young people with autism and
mental health challenges, and a history of long or
multiple hospital admissions, many of whom have a
history of very high levels of self-harm.
We are very proud to share that
we have a 95% placement
success rate in the Complex
Needs cohort in 2023-2024.
We are also very pleased to
celebrate with 7 people who have
remained living well for over 3
years in community placements
following long hospital admissions
between 3 and 26 years.
During the first year of living at Great Meadows,
the tenants have had some amazing outcomes. Learn
