Restrictive practice
At Active Prospects we are committed to providing the least possible restrictions to maintain safety and take
pride in being creative and having a positive approach to risk taking to achieve this goal. In 2023-2024 66% of
the people, we support with complex needs had a Court of Protection approved Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard,
Community Treatment Order, or Ministry of Justice restrictions. These include the following restrictions:

Despite 70% of the Complex Care Cohort having physical intervention listed on their restrictions, only 19% of the
individuals required some form of physical intervention in 2023-2024 and only 8% of all behavioural occurrences
required physical intervention. Of these 86% required the use of disengagement and 13% required a seated or
walking hold to ensure safety of the person or others. 42% of restrictive holds were deployed to prevent people
from severe self-harm or attempts at suicide. There was zero use of full restraint in 2023-2024.
Restricted access of specific items relates exclusively to items that could be used for severe self-harm including
knives, razors and medications. Restricted access to food is exclusively for individuals with PICA or type 1 diabetes
who lack mental capacity in this area.
