We continued to advocate for our people and the
social care sector during 2024. Our CEO Maria Mills
is the Chair of the Surrey Care Association, which has
played an important role this year in supporting and
challenging the rollout of Surrey County Council’s new
‘Dynamic Purchasing System’ (DPS), which is the new
commissioning process for social care s
ervices in Surrey.
This year we continued to demonstrate strong, inclusive
governance through our annual governance conference,
which brings together over 100 staff, trustees and
people we support to discuss our strategic priorities for
the year ahead. We have strengthened people’s voice
within our governance structure by inviting two people
with lived experience of learning disability or autism to
join our Board of Trustees.
We sit on the Surrey VCSE Alliance Leadership Board
helping shape their new governance framework.
We are active members of the National Care Forum
(Maria is also a member of the NCF Board), Voluntary
Organisation Disability Group (VODG) and the National
Housing Federation (NHF). We also continued to help
people to get their voices heard through our coproduction work – this included:
Robert Stronge has been supported
by Active Prospects for 11 years and
joined the Board in the summer.
+ Starting a quarterly Big Feedback event, which
brings together people we support from across our
homes to discuss their priority issues.
“
It is important for me to be part of the board to
share my voice and the voice of people we support.
I see results now I am part of the meetings.”
Robert Stronge
+ Organising a Managing My Money event for people
with learning disabilities, autistic people, and care
providers – attended by 200 people.
+ Running a Healthy Eating cooking course for people
we support in partnership with East Surrey College
+ Publishing a refreshed co-produced Tenant Handbook
+ Carrying out at least two Quality Checker service
visits each month
+ Continuing our work with University of Surrey by
joining a new research study looking at inequalities
in cancer diagnostic outcomes for people with
Learning Disabilities.
We also supported the Pro-Active
Community, a user-led charity,
including helping them to win a
£75k, three-year grant from the
Lloyds Bank Foundation.
