Making an impact across the
health and social care sector
In 2024 the Care Talent Collective, a collaboration
between seven Surrey-based care providers led
by Active Prospects, was awarded £200k by NHS
Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board to become
the lead provider for Oliver McGowan Mandatory
Training in Surrey.
The programme of training is named after Oliver
McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need
for health and social care staff to receive better
training. The aim of the training is to save lives
by ensuring the health and social care workforce
have the right skills and knowledge to provide safe,
compassionate and informed care to autistic people
and people with a learning disability.
Since being awarded the grant earlier in the year,
Active Prospects has already:
+ Trained over 40 co-trainers with lived experience
+ Trained 16 facilitator trainers
+ Delivered 42 courses to 910 delegates
+ Organised and delivered four special training
sessions for 70 health and social care leaders
from across Surrey
In total approximately 56,000
health or social care staff in Surrey
will need to attend training, with
each course co-delivered by an
autistic trainer and a trainer with
a learning disability.
