MITIGATING CLIMATE CHANGE AND GHG EMISSIONS
To address GHG emissions, our team engaged
with an independent third party to conduct
the 昀椀rst assessment of our carbon footprint
across operations in 2022. This assessment
not only highlighted our current environmental
impact but also served as our baseline for
setting reduction targets. Aligned with our
sustainability commitment, we aim to reduce
GHG emissions 25% by 2030. Facility managers
and the Sustainability Committee oversee the
implementation of reduction initiatives, such
as investing in energy-e昀케cient technologies,
exploring renewable energy sources, and
minimizing resource consumption.
INDEPENDENTLY MEASURE
AND BENCHMARK
We expanded our data collection and
GHG emissions calculation capabilities
by sourcing a third-party software, Green
Project Technologies. This software empowers
our management team to make insightful
and impactful decisions related to energy
use and GHG emissions. We also installed a
sub-metering system, Onset data loggers,
to capture real-time data and analytics
on energy usage at our facilities. The data
insights allow Accupac to target and
optimize energy-saving projects. Ongoing
2023 GHG Emissions by Scope
(MT CO2e)
measurement of our energy usage is a key
pillar of our decarbonization plan.
In 2023, Accupac accounted for 6,056 MT
CO2e—a 3.6% decrease compared to the 2022
baseline. In addition to this absolute reduction,
we realized a 2.6% reduction in our GHG
emissions intensity (based on units produced)
metric. Our emissions sources include mobile
combustion (gasoline and diesel), stationary
combustion (natural gas and propane), and
purchased electricity. The emissions mix
was comprised of 57% purchased electricity,
42% stationary combustion, and 1% mobile
combustion. For more detailed information,
see the 昀椀gure below and this report’s data
appendix. GHG emissions are calculated using
the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard.
In 2023, Accupac conducted a scope 3
spend-based screening with the intention
of better understanding our largest scope 3
categories. The screening found that category
1 (purchased goods and services), category 12
(end-of-life treatment of sold products), and
category 9 (downstream transportation and
distribution) are Accupac’s highest categories.
With this information, we can prioritize where
to focus on collecting more granular data
to improve the extensiveness of our GHG
inventory moving forward.
