New School Year in Eden School (Campus 2)
Kicks Off with Orientation Exercise
IN FOCUS
Our principal Mrs Jenny Lai giving an opening address.
Covid-19 may have caused considerable disruptions to our plans,
but the extended lead up to the completion of Eden School (Campus
2) did little to dampen the spirit of our staff when the day of the
official move finally arrived. Though classes did not commence until
15 January 2024, Campus 2 welcomed more than two hundred
students and caregivers on 10 and 11 January, to attend orientation
sessions where they got to experience the facilities in the newly
refurbished campus; formerly Hong Kah Primary School.
Over the course of two days, Senior Track students aged 13 to 18
got to acclimatise to their new school grounds. Despite the rain,
they arrived in high spirits, excited to see their classroom and meet
their teachers and classmates.
Orientation activities included concurrent events for caregivers
and students. A caregiver briefing and school tour was planned
for caregivers. Besides being given an overview of the school’s
transition planning process, they were also introduced to the
different facilities in the school. Caregivers saw how classrooms
were set up to facilitate learning and also visited special rooms such
as the Daily Living Skills Rooms where students learn home skills in
authentic settings. Students, on the other hand, engaged in various
group and individual activities in their brand-new classrooms. For
some, this meant group games with peers, while for others, some
quiet time with sensory toys or parallel play. They relished the time
spent bonding with their new friends in preparation for the new
school year that awaited them.
The orientation sessions concluded successfully with positive
feedback received from caregivers. We extend our thanks to
the combined efforts of all staff involved in the move to the
new campus, setting up of the classrooms sand preparing for the
orientations.
As the saying goes, it takes a village to see a project of this scale
come to fruition. Our senior Edenites will have a place that they can
call home for the coming years, just a few streets away from our
fellow junior Edenites in the main campus. We look forward to the
continual building of memories in this new space, where, true to
our vision, potential is maximised and lives positively transformed.
