Instructions to Teachers—.Sanitary Arrangements in
connection with Public Schools.
IT is essential that the outhouses in connection with all
Schools under -the control of -this Department, be kept in a
thoroughly saniPpa.nrcondition, and with -this end in view and in
order to obviateqny possible complaint, from -the local authority
under the "Local Government Act, " -the following rules are
issued for guidance: —
INSPECTION.—The Teacher in charge is required to visit the
outhouses once daily in order to see that no nuisance
exists, and he will be held reisponsible for -the closets
being kept in a perfectly sanitary condition.
Any defects found, as a result of the daily inspect,ion, and which require Departmental ac -tion, are to be
immediately reported -through the Local Inspector.
DISINFECTING.—Disinfectant, which may be obtained by appliation through the Inspector, should be used thoroughly
when -there is any infectious disease about, and also when
the condition of the closets require such attention.
PAN 0.EL.—Pan oil for use in dis-tricts where -the fly nuisance
is pronounced during the hot months raay be obtained on

It may be found that using the oil with an equal
quantity of water will render it more effective-, but the
method of application will be left to the disoretion of

Applications for -the supply of pan oil and disinfectant should contain information as to the nearest
railway or wharf, and also an estimate of the cost of

should, as a general rule, be forwarded atsame tirae
as -those for annual supplies, in order to reduce the cost
of reght, as much as possible.
Stocks of disinfectant and pan oil naust be kept under
lock and key.
