Lead pipes
At lead it be we have expanded our commitment to preservation of heritage buildings by leasing a
new larger unit. This extra space allows our specialist to form new and repair existing lead pipes and
hoppers. Our team is dedicated to produce high quality sections of decorative leadwork using traditional
methods of sandcasting and bossing. Modern functionality can be added by welding in stainless steel
backing plates to help prevent fixing ear failure.
Skinners hall lead pipes
Recently, we were selected to install new and repair
existing lead pipes dating back to the 17th century at
Skinner's Hall in London. One lead hopper, dated 1779
and thus 245 years old, was among our projects. It was a
privilege to restore something of historical significance,
even if it was just a dented, aged hopper.
Our team recreated new sections of lead pipe with
decorative astragals by crafting them in wood and employing traditional sandcasting methods for production.
Subsequently, we cut them to the desired length and
expertly welded the corners together.
Skinners hall lead basin
We undertook extensive cleaning and minor repairs on a
17th-century lead basin that was in a state of disrepair.
Covered in years of lime wash and with multiple puncture
holes, we welded where possible and carefully removed
old debris without damaging the lead. Additionally, we
crafted a new tap to match the existing one for visual consistency. To complete the restoration, a new wooden valve
was made to fit atop the pipe, ensuring a period-correct
appearance for the tap/valve assembly.
