Members of Parliament
Under the UK electoral system, the UK is split into different areas called constituencies.
There are 650 constituencies in the UK. During a general election, everyone who is
eligible to vote can cast a vote for a candidate within their constituency to be their
Member of Parliament (MP). The candidate who gets the most votes becomes the MP
for that constituency.
Your current MP
You can find out who the current MP in your constituency is on the UK Parliament’s
website. You may be interested to know your current MP’s track record on voting
for or against certain legislation. You can find your current MP’s voting records at
theyworkforyou.com.
Your candidates
Ahead of each general election you can find out who the candidates are for your
constituency here (Who Can I Vote For) and via the Electoral Commission.
