Inspiring Future LeadersCommitted to the#BeThatGirlMentorship ProgramSDG&E’s signature program#BeThatGirl has advocatedfor women in historicallyunderrepresented fields since2018. Through mentorship andcommunity outreach, SDG&Esupports these young women asthey navigate their future STEMInspiring Future LeadersSTEM Scholarship Programeducation and career paths.In this year’s program, SDG&Ematched nonprofit partnerswith employees for a series ofstructured conversations oversix months. The girls from thenonprofit programs learned howto create their elevator pitches,identify their strengths, buildhealthy relationships and developtime management skills.SDG&E awarded $10,000renewable scholarships to 10 localhigh school and college studentswho self-identify as a woman orperson of color and are pursuingundergraduate studies in science,technology, engineering andmathematics (STEM). Many ofthese scholars are first-generationcollege students and face financialbarriers to higher education.These are the first scholarshipsgiven by SDG&E under its newlylaunched Inspiring Future LeadersSTEM Scholarship Program, whichbuilds on SDG&E’s long historyof investing in STEM educationto foster the region’s futuregenerations of diverse and highlyskilled workforce.“This scholarship is not solely an investment in my education butalso to future generations of Latinas and Latinos who aspire for acareer in the STEM field.
