She now works forConnexions (previously CambridgeshireCareers Guidance), the new service withheadquarters in Meadow Lane that caters for13–19 year olds in all aspects of theirtransition to adulthood.Annie is also a governor of St Ivo School andwas elected to the Town Council as a LiberalDemocrat in 2001. She is deeply convincedthat education and learning are the key toopening doors for young people and adultsalike. Her father, Charles Jacques, became a Town andDistrict Councillor in Huntingdon during the 1970s, and she moved to St. Ives in 1990 after meeting her husband Peter.She is probably best known for her tireless work as Secretary to the St Ives Millennium Committee (1997-2000), whichresurrected the St Ives Carnival and organised the Millennium celebrations in Market Hill on New Year’s Eve 1999.Debbie takes a keen interest in local politics and stood for the Town Council at a by election in 2001. Then in 2002, shecontested the St Ives North District Council seat held by Jean Chandler and nearly pulled off a shock win for the LiberalDemocrats.
