Specialized HSE training
All of our assets have HSE Training as a core element.
Many areas of training are fairly common across all of
our businesses, although with obvious consideration
to the site-specific nature of some topics (such as
spill prevention and management). In addition to these
core topics, some businesses have additional focused
considerations, such as marine issues where the
facilities have those exposures.
While varying across our assets to reflect the hazards
and work activities unique to each operation, some
general safety topics that our physical operations train
upon include:
• Safe work permitting (both hot and cold work)
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), eye and face/
• Office workplace security and threat management
(consideration for management of crisis events such
as extreme weather, hostile persons, or other threats
of magnitude).
hand/foot protection
• Respiratory protection
• Lockout – Tag out (LOTO) for control of hazardous
energy
• Noise exposure
• Heat / cold exposure
• Fall protection, walking and safe working surfaces
• Hazard communication / Hazardous and toxic
chemicals in the workplace
• Injury and Illness reporting and recordkeeping
• Near miss and unsafe condition reporting
• Machine guarding
During 2020, pandemic restrictions prevented our officebased organization from reaching some of the training
goals we had for ourselves during the year, however the
organization did make progress in obtaining emergency
first-aid equipment within its larger offices. Our office
emergency trainings are being developed to cover
topics of:
• Basic first aid and CPR (general management
for bleeding, airway/choking, and other medical
emergencies that can be given prior to emergency
professionals arriving at our offices).
| HUMAN RIGHTS
Mercuria is committed to the wellbeing of its employees
and stakeholders. Our approach to human rights is
aligned with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and
Human Rights, and we are committed to implementing
the UN Global Compact Principles. We seek out
opportunities to engage with NGOs and stakeholders,
so that we can incorporate their perspectives into our
planning.
Whilst the Covid-19 crisis has been an unprecedented
event, Mercuria has taken steps to ensure that the
business continues to operate to its full potential and the
welfare of its employees throughout the pandemic has
been a priority. At the onset of the pandemic, we created
a portal for employees to use to report confirmed cases,
report working from home and provide local information.
We also ensured that all employees had access to the
Mental Health Considerations pamphlet created by
WHO. Our staff members have worked tirelessly to
provide COVID safe workspaces where our offices and
assets are open.
