CANADA'S TOP SMALL & MEDIUM EMPLOYERS (2025)
Tatham employees wear their brand with pride
J
essica Stapleton says that if
there’s one thing that sets
apart people at Tatham
Engineering from other companies, it’s their love for branded
clothing. “We often joke that many
of our employees’ entire wardrobe
is made up of Tatham-branded
gear.”
With offices across Ontario in
Collingwood, Barrie, Guelph,
Bracebridge, Orillia and Ottawa,
Stapleton — an engineer, project
manager in Tatham’s municipal
department — says it’s a great way
for staff to represent Tatham in the
communities where it operates.
“We’re very active in the
community. Even on weekends,
you see employees wearing their
Tatham clothing,” she says. “It
shows that staff are proud of their
connection to the company.”
Stapleton arrived at Tatham
with a background at large and
medium-sized engineering firms
in Toronto before moving northward to Simcoe County to raise
a family. “I realized I didn’t want
to work for a large company,” she
says. “I found that a smaller firm
offered more opportunities for my
professional development. I was
looking for a company with a great
reputation in both the industry
and the community.”
Michael Cullip, vice president at
Tatham, highlights the importance of new hires, like Stapleton
who currently chairs Tatham’s
newly formed Young Professionals
Group. Tatham’s 2024 launch of
a rotation program for recent
graduates further underscores
the company’s commitment to
supporting emerging talent. The
program offers employees the
chance to explore different career
paths through four-month terms
in various departments during
their first year.
“While graduates come out of
university with a civil engineering degree, they may not have
been exposed to all the diverse
disciplines within the field,” says
Cullip. “As a multidisciplinary
firm, our goal is to provide them
with an opportunity right from
the start, aligning their specific
interests with the wide range of
offerings we have available.”
With staff spread across the
province, working from home
and at job sites, Cullip says
communication is key. In addition
to quarterly updates from
management, routine department
meetings and scheduled manager
check-ins, Tatham places a strong
focus on fostering collaboration.
Opportunities for team building
are prioritized with annual
budgets for company and
department events, as well as
charity work.
Inspired by the company tagline
“Enhancing our communities,”
Tatham offers paid volunteer days
and support for a variety of charity
events, from tree planting with
local conservation authorities to
team-based fundraising challenges including an annual pond
hockey tournament and 24-hour
ski relay.
Employees’ ties to charities
“I WAS LOOKING FOR A COMPANY WITH A GREAT
REPUTATION IN BOTH THE INDUSTRY AND THE
COMMUNITY.”
