JENNETTE'S PIER
BONNER BRIDGE PIER
Equipped with an aquarium, gift shop, and
food, this is the nicest pier in OBX. Great for
sightseeing, fishing, or watching sunsets.
The 1,046-foot-long remnant section of the
Bonner Bridge is located next to the south end
of the Basnight Bridge. It is managed by the
Cape Hatteras National Seashore. In 2010, a
project started to replace the Bonner Bridge. In
2019, the new Marc Basnight Bridge was
opened and the Bonner Bridge was
decommissioned.
Anglers can experience some of the best fishing
on the East Coast from this 1,000 - foot long
concrete pier that reaches out over the Atlantic
Ocean. Depending on the time of year,
fishermen can target a wide variety of fish
including black drum, bluefish, cobia, croaker,
dolphin (mahi mahi), flounder, gray trout, king
mackerel, pinfish, pigfish, pompano, puffers,
rays, red drum, sheepshead, spadefish, Spanish
mackerel, speckled trout, skate, spot and
additional species.
Part of the Bonner Bridge was left reaching out
over the water for 1000ft on the Hatteras Island
side of the Oregon Inlet. It helps to curtain
some of the ocean currents, is used as a
pedestrian walking path, and is popular for
fishing. The pier is free of charge and open 24
hours a day. There are a few limitations on this
pier as it doesn’t allow bikes, roller blades or
skateboards and it still requires a coastal North
Carolina Fishing License to fish from the pier.
