After working in London for Virgin Entertainment
Division and BBC Publications, Connie decided to
quit the rat-race and let her food hobby take over.
She was runner-up in Anglia TV’s Host of the Year
in 1993 and won the regional Masterchef title in
1994. The following year the tearooms on The
Quay became available and she seized the
opportunity.
But the teashop facade is misleading. Connie also
does outside catering, corporate entertaining and
‘food styling’ for magazines. She writes recipes
and for some time had a weekly radio slot. And the
TV cameras are no strangers to Connie’s Tea
Rooms.
She also chairs the Town Centre Management
Initiative, which looks at ways of ‘adding value’ to
St Ives - for example by organising the Arts
Festival, in its third year by 2002.
Footnote:
Connie surprised everyone when, as we were going
to press, she unexpectedly sold her business to
take up another marketing challenge, this time in
the Falklands.
