CAPE HATTERAS
Located just south of Whalebone Junction, the
Bodie Island Lighthouse in Nags Head, NC is a
beloved attraction to visit during your time on
the Outer Banks. This historic site was originally
built in the 1870s and is now under the
management of the National Parks Service.
Standing 156 feet (48 m) tall and located on the
Roanoke Sound side. The current Bodie Island
Lighthouse is the third that has stood in this
vicinity of Bodie Island. It’s been remodeled
several times to ensure that visitors can keep
visiting. You can enjoy a tour of the interior or
stroll the grounds.
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is on Hatteras
Island in a town called Buxton. As one of the
most recognizable lighthouses in the world, it’s
known for its iconic black-and-white stripes and
towering 208-foot height. The beam of light
from this site travels 20 miles into the ocean
