The iM3 iC Plaque Indicating Swabs are quick and easy to use.
They show when plaque is present on teeth. Simply roll the swab
gently across the teeth at the gum edge and the plaque stains
pink to indicate germ-filled layers on the teeth. This is a visible
sign of periodontal disease that’s easy for your client to see.

Chlorhexidine has been proven to have efficacy as an
oral antiseptic which may reduce plaque, especially as a
perioperative or pre-prophylaxis rinse (Roudebush et al. 2005)
CHLORHEXIDINE LAVAGE: The oral cavity is a contaminated
area and thorough dental cleanings are mildly invasive. This means
that dental cleanings result in a transient bacteraemia, which is
more severe in patients with periodontitis (Daly et al. 2001; Forner
et al. 2006; Lafaurie et al. 2007). Dental cleanings cause bacterial
aerosolization and contamination of the office environment when
ultrasonic instruments are used. Rinsing the oral cavity with a 0.12
or 0.2% solution of chlorhexidine gluconate prior to commencing
the prophylaxis, has been shown to decrease the bacterial load
(Fine et al. 1992; Bellows 2004).
