Small Acts of Kindness Impact Report 2023 - Report - Page 6
The voice of our recipients
Once again, we are extremely grateful to our friends and partners at Ipsos UK, who have kindly donated their time to
support the data collection and analysis of feedback received from our gift bag recipients. Their expertise is invaluable in
giving us the means to amplify the voices of our recipients and reflect the meaningful and powerful impact our work has.
British writer and loneliness expert Olivia Laing says –
“What makes loneliness so painful is not being alone, but the feeling that no one cares”
Almost 2/3 of respondents live alone, whilst almost 3/4 feel isolated at least some of the time.
Each gift bag makes a connection with the recipient and creates the feeling that someone cares. Much of the feedback we
receive highlights this powerful impact, with many people commenting that they feel ‘remembered, cared for, valued and
happy.’
“What you are doing is extremely useful
for some who are alone with no family in
their lives. Thank you for caring”
“It made me feel very much loved
and cared for, thank you”
“Overwhelmed and tearful and grateful.
It gave me strength at a critical time”
“Made me feel good. Like someone cares
about me. It often feels like there is no
support so it was lovely”
“That people care and it
made me feel less lonely”
“I felt so alone until you came to my aid
and your bag and contents really helped.
My heart felt thanks”
“I felt as if someone cared about me.
I live on my own and just feel invisible”
“Tearful, cared about and grateful for the
kindness of others. It meant a lot to me”
Thank you to all of our donors, who include Trusts & Foundations, Businesses, County
and District Councils, schools, community groups and individuals
for their amazing generosity, support and kindness.
Particular thanks go to our key funders in 2023:
The National Lottery Community Fund, Postcode Places Trust, Hertfordshire County
Council, Watford Council, Household Support Fund, Hertfordshire Community Fund,
Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation and McCarthy Stone Foundation
