Plant It Forward Enhances
Balboa Park’s Tree Canopy
As one of San Diego’s most iconic
destinations, Balboa Park is a hub
of activity year-round. SDG&E’s
partnership with Forever Balboa
Living Coast Discovery Center
is developing a new generation
of climate champions through
its Coastal Climate Champions
program for South County middle
school students. Youth learn about
climate science through a fourpart environmental education
program that includes in-classroom
instruction and a field trip to Living
Coast in Chula Vista. Students are

Volunteer with
ProduceGood
ProduceGood finds sustainable
solutions to reclaim and
repurpose food waste to
alleviate hunger and promote
health. Its First Pick program
helps divert excess produce
from landfills while also
creating access to fresh fruit
for those facing food insecurity.
Employees have volunteered
with ProduceGood since 2020,
participating in more than 20
First Pick events and harvesting
over 100,000 servings of fresh
fruit. SDG&E was recognized
in 2023 with ProduceGood’s
Community Roots Partnership
award which celebrates community
