History Continued
In 1958, part of the ranch was owned by the former Governor of Texas,
Dolph Briscoe. Mr. Briscoe had the Army Corp of Engineers build a giant
dam on the property to enhance his “private fishing camp.” The camp
entertained many famous visitors including former Vice President John
Nance Garner for his 90th birthday.
Between 2007 and 2010, the ranch launched one of the largest cedar
removal projects in North American history. Over 10,000 acres of cedar
were cleared at a cost of over $3,000,000.
In October 2012, the ranch was renamed Ox Ranch (previously Four Acres
Ranch). In early 2013, construction began on a 5,800-foot runway, 16-acre
lake, multiple dams, 10 cabins, giraffe pens, and a 6,000-square-foot
lodge.
