The individual Wayfinders Circle
members also worked on one or more
of the following activities with the
support of the initiative: protecting
and monitoring their territories,
strengthening internal governance
processes, strengthening Indigenousled organizations, advancing legal
cases to secure their rights, improving
access to education, improving food
security, working with youth, and
maintaining or revitalizing cultural
practices. Some specific examples
include the Wampis Nation going
through the first transition of their
autonomous government and establishing better communications infrastructure within the territory; the Qqs
Projects Society advancing their food
security, youth, and community cultural
programs; and Warddeken focusing
their Wayfinders Circle support on
their ecological monitoring program.
Altogether, the Wayfinders Circle
initiative contributed to the efforts
of its 12 members to maintain and
strengthen guardianship over 37
million hectares.
We are optimistic that 2022 will be
an exciting year for Wayfinders Circle
members advancing specific actions
to strengthen their territories, cultures,
and self-determination. In addition, we
expect to start sharing narratives of
individual members through communications and storytelling, and of
the overall initiative through reports
and the participation of the Wayfinders Circle in key international
fora for members to share and
discuss key issues.
