CANADA'S TOP SMALL & MEDIUM EMPLOYERS (2025)
Challenge the status quo to thrive at Multiview
W
hen Arooj Mazar
moved to Ottawa
from Pakistan in
2007, she was in her
early 20s and married with three
young children. The family had
planned to return to Pakistan one
day, but they fell in love with the
city and decided to stay. Mazar felt
equally at home in her workplace
when she joined Ottawa-based
Multiview Financial Software as
a business development executive
in 2023.
Multiview Financial Software
is a leader in accounting and
financial solutions for small and
medium-size enterprises. “In my
job interview, I said I wanted three
things — a great work environment, a career to grow in, and to
make good money because I like
the nice things in life,” she says,
laughing.
Mazar didn’t come from a sales
background, and she admits she
had no idea what she was doing in
the beginning. “But it’s a friendly,
supportive environment, and everyone is super helpful,” she says.
“I have high standards for myself,
so I said I was going to prove
myself in the first year.”
President and CEO Mike
Johnson suggested that Mazar give
herself a year to learn the business, then try proving herself the
second year. “It was good advice,
and I learned a lot that first year,”
she says. “Now, I’m landing and
closing record amounts of new
business, but it took a village to
help me get there.”
At first, a peer program buddy
on the sales team supported
Mazar, as did other colleagues.
“Everyone was so respectful and
caring as I was learning,” she says.
“We’re trying to foster a culture
that values diversity and an
environment where the best ideas
win, no matter who comes up with
them — regardless of title," says
Johnson, who believes if you treat
everyone well, opportunities will
follow, just as they did for him.
During the summers of 2009 to
2013, he worked at Multiview as an
intern while studying accounting
at Algonquin College. “I was doing
quality assurance, and I loved
looking for bugs and inefficiencies
in the products,” he says.
Staying on part-time during
the school year, Johnson noticed
how much employees really cared
about each other, just as much as
they cared about solving client
problems. His job was fun, too.
When he attended a conference
in California to support the
executives in their sessions and
meet clients, he took some of his
colleagues and clients surfing.
“I couldn’t believe it!” he says. “It
was an amazing experience, and I
thought, this is the best job ever.”
After graduation, however, he left
Multiview to work for one of the
company’s clients, then returned
in 2015 as a senior financial
analyst. During his time away, he
“WE’RE TRYING TO FOSTER A CULTURE THAT VALUES
DIVERSITY AND AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE BEST
IDEAS WIN, NO MATTER WHO COMES UP WITH THEM —
REGARDLESS OF TITLE.”
