he Visakhapatnam Port
Authority (VPA) has
achieved a significant
milestone by securing the 18th
position in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index
(CPPI), announced by Secretary
T Venu Gopal. This accomplishment is credited to the exemplary
e昀昀orts of Terminal Operator M/s
Visakha Container Terminal Pvt
Ltd (VCTPL). The CPPI evaluates
quayside performance, focusing
on the operational e昀케ciency of
ports in handling container
ships—a critical factor for customers selecting ports, emphasising
e昀케ciency and ship turnaround
time.
VCTPL demonstrated exceptional performance with key
indicators including 27.5 moves
per crane hour, a turnaround
time of 21.4 hours, and a berth
idle time of only 13%. This
success underscores effective
collaboration between the port
and terminal operators in serving
their customers.
VCTPL plays a crucial role as
a gateway for Nepal-bound containers and connects with over 65
container lines, including major
shipping lines and Non-Vessel
Operating Common Carriers. The
terminal facilitates eight regular
vessel services to destinations in
East, West, and the Middle East.
The VPA’s performance aligns
with the Maritime India Vision
2030 guidelines, and in recognition of VCTPL’s achievement, the
port plans to reward the terminal
operator. Stakeholders such as
Railways, Customs, and the State
Government have applauded the
milestone and pledged continued
support to enhance VPA’s performance indicators further.
