Sector performance
Tech M&A was disproportionately affected by the
overall downturn in M&A activity in 2023, which fell
precipitously from the record-breaking heights of 2021.
Regulatory scrutiny remained a looming challenge that
shaped deals, influenced market dynamics, and
challenged traditional approaches.
Traditional players adapted by engaging in strategic
partnerships to stay competitive. Additionally, activity
in the software and internet services sectors was
particularly
strong
due
to
ongoing
digital
transformation and decreasing tech company
valuations. Emerging trends like AI, cybersecurity, and
blockchain drove a flurry of acquisitions as companies
sought to bolster their capabilities.
Hogan Lovells activities

thought leadership resources, the AI Hub and our
Global AI Trends Guide, featuring insights on the
evolution of AI in M&A.
We hosted our Superwomen in Tech & Telecoms virtual
roundtable, which brought together the next generation
of women lawyers and industry professionals to share
their unique insights and expertise. We also hosted our
