Y4 English Lesson Plan: Dramatic Diaries
Lesson reflections / next steps / teacher notes
Assessment opportunities
During the annotation portion of the lesson, teachers can assess how well pupils already know
key writing and grammatical features through questioning.
Children can utilise the tick list to assess that they have met lesson expectations throughout the
writing portion of the lesson.
Children can reflect on the use of each element when looking at their friend’s work. They can
take on positive and constructive criticism from their peers during the plenary.
Suggestions for extending learning
Pupils could write another diary entry as the individual they didn’t choose to write about in this
lesson (Preet or Dave), or they could find out about another world record holder using the
Guinness World Records website for research, then write a diary entry as that person.
Home learning opportunities
Children can take the Spelling Wordsearch home with them to practise their new spellings.
Encourage pupils to write a diary entry about themselves over the weekend, trying to include the
features covered in this lesson. You might send home the Diary Writing Checklist for them to
refer to.
